Starting this evening, you'll notice a change in the number of traffic lanes on three major streets in Downtown Boise.  It's part of ACHD's pilot program to add new bike lanes for those who like to pedal their way to work or play in the heart of the Capitol City.

According to the Idaho Statesman, vehicle lanes on Captiol (between the River and Jefferson) and Main/Idaho Streets (between Broadway and 16th) will be turned into buffered bike lanes.  Crews will use painted barriers, plastic markers and parked cars to separate those bike lanes from vehicle traffic.  The lanes aren't permanent quite yet.  Cyclists will be able to begin testing the new lanes on Thursday and in about three weeks, ACHD will decide if they want to keep the new lanes, alter them or go back to the way things used to be.

When ACHD took comment on the pilot program about two-thirds of the comments were in favor of adding the bike lanes.
