It has been HOT here in the Treasure Valley and we've been setting all sorts of records. From daily high temperatures to consecutive days above 100 degrees. Even at night people are finding themselves sweating with lows, sometimes, not even dipping below the 90's. So what does that mean for Idaho Power? It means a whole lot of energy usage. So much energy usage, they're breaking records, too.

On June 30th during the 6:00 p.m. hour, a new, all-time record was set for the amount of electricity used: 3,745 megawatts. The previous record was set in 2017.

While the heat was sure to blame for a large amount of power usage, it's clear too that the growth that has been happening here in the State of Idaho has contributed, too. More people means more service needs--really, it all makes sense. Let's not forget that even during a pandemic, the amount of people moving to the State of Idaho was the largest in the nation. Yes, the secret is out.

By the way, if you are looking for some help on paying that Idaho Power bill while your air conditioning unit cranks--or perhaps you know someone that could use a helping hand, earlier this week we outlined several money-saving and assistant options. Idaho Power does have programs in place to make sure you can afford your bill and stay safe in this heat.
