During Live for 175 we came across an app being developed and tested in the Treasure Valley that is being called the next big social app.  Tonight's your chance to try it out.

The Salmon Social app is powered by FourSquare and lets you see what types of users are checked in at the same place you're at or planning on visiting.  It'll tell you how many people are there, how many of them share an interest you've listed in your profile and the basic demographic of the people there.  For example, if you're a 30-something wanting to stay away from the young college crowd, you may not go to a place that says "most are early 20s" on Salmon Social.

You're also able to see the profiles of other users in that location at the same time so you can decide if you actually want to approach someone to meet in person.  That profile includes your first name, interests, occupation, employer, what part of town you live in and a little about yourself in a nutshell.  The idea behind the app is for you to form actual friendships outside of a social network.

Tonight Salmon Social is hosting a mixer downtown at Bistro to give you an opportunity to try out the app and get a free beer! If you fill out their questionnaire to help improve the app they'll also kick in a free t-shirt for you.  Salmon Social will have their documentary crew with them so you'll get your change to be famous by telling everyone what you think about the app.
