1987 Boise Bench Murder Solved In 2023 Thanks To DNA & Luck
We'd like to make this as clear as possible before beginning this article: You should not murder people. It's uncool, illegal, and you'll go to prison. Even if your murdering took place a long, long time ago.
So, we all agree we're not going to go out and murder somebody, right? Ok good. Here's what went down:
Boise Police have just solved a cold case from 1987, where a murder occurred in Boise's Depot Bench neighborhood. A business owner there was abducted and murdered, and the case went unsolved for years. Until now.
Captain Matt Jones of BPD explains:
Members of BPD’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) have spent years working to identify the person responsible for the death of Joyce Casper and close this investigation once and for all for [the victim's] family. Justice has been a long time coming and we are proud and grateful to finally be able to give them some answers.
How did police crack this decades-old case? DNA, of course.
The good news is the crime has been solved, and justice has been served. Except for the fact that the culprit who has been identified by DNA died back in 2007. So, thanks to technology and the never-ending effort by Boise Police, this crime has been solved, but it's not quite the happy ending we were all hoping for.
Even when a culprit is caught, the victim's family still has to deal with grief and loss for the rest of their lives. So while justice may have been served, we truly wish there was some light at the end of the tunnel for this story.
Maybe if there were some video evidence, this story would've turned out differently. Like this leaked video supposedly of the Idaho Murder Suspect:
