It seemed like the majority of our listeners thought the great Bike Lane Experiment of 2014 was a complete disaster, but the buffered bike lanes may make their return!

According to KBOI2-TV The City of Boise has approached ACHD to put buffered bike lanes back into Downtown Boise on Idaho and Main Streets from Broadway to 16th.  There's been a plan to put a bike lane about the same length on Jefferson by the end of the year, but the city is asking the highway district to deviate from that plan. Now they want your opinion on these four bike lane options.

Option 1: Bike lane on Jefferson Street

Options 2 & 3: Buffered bike lanes on Main and Idaho

This option would have the bike lane either protected by a lane of paring or would run along side the existing parking lane.  Either way, Downtown would lost 50 parking spots with this option.  It would also add what ACHD calls "a minute" to your commute between the east and west side of Downtown by eliminating a lane of traffic.  Many speculate that the traffic changes would add more time to your daily commute.

Option 4: Eliminate Parking On Main and Idaho, Replace Parking Lanes With Bike Lanes

Bye bye, 200 downtown parking spaces.  This option's redeeming quality?  It keeps all current travel lanes intact.

The ACHD wants you to know what you'd like to see happen with bike lanes in Downtown Boise.  You can submit your options through a survey found on their website. They'll also hold a public meeting at City Hall on March 16th.
