Boise TikTok Stars – You Can’t Use Taylor Swift’s Music Anymore
We get paid to write and talk for a living, much like content creators on TikTok, so if you came here looking for some cheap shots taken at TikTok users, this isn't that.
Following our favorite creators on TikTok is fun! There's always something new to see, you get surprised pretty often, and you'll occasionally learn something.
Well, if you're a TikTok creator making money off your views in Boise and all around Idaho, you're about to run into a huge wall when it comes to putting out your content.
Universal Music Group, with artists like Taylor Swift & Bad Bunny under their umbrella, have a big beef with the people at TikTok. More specifically, UMG doesn't want their artists' music on the platform if the artists aren't being compensated for their work.
In a letter Tuesday, Universal Music Group had this to say:
[They're asking for] appropriate compensation for our artists and songwriters, protecting human artists from the harmful effects of AI, and online safety for TikTok’s users.
They laid out pretty plainly what they're accusing TikTok of:
Ultimately TikTok is trying to build a music-based business, without paying fair value for the music.
So, yes, this means that if UMG is successful in their current quest against the social media giant, you will no longer be able to use Taylor Swift's music in your TikTok videos.
Which, sure, sounds like it isn't a big deal, but when your job is to make Taylor Swift videos to put food on the table, that can't be an easy pill to swallow.
