There's nothing worse than being in the middle of a lunch, workout or salon appointment in Downtown Boise and realizing your parking meter is about to expire.  You just know that the parking ticket is going to be on your window when you get back to the car...or will it?

In the coming months, you'll be able to avoid those pesky expired meter tickets with the help of your smartphone! Parking officials signed off on a plan to fund more than 800 smart parking meters that will go into Downtown Boise between Myrtle and State, 4th and 11th streets and work with a smart phone app.

The app will allow you to add additional money to the meter without having to dash a couple blocks from wherever you are enjoying yourself DT.  They're also working on part of the app and a website that would use the smart meters' technology to tell you where there's an open street parking space.

The timeline for the meter's installation hasn't been nailed down solidly, but we're hearing they'll be in place sometime this fall!

Now if only there was an app that would actually parallel park my car for me because I suck at that...
