This is probably the most widely not spoken about day on the calendar. Being the mother and father to your kids is unexplainable in difficulty and that's why this day exists. Share.

It's National Single Parent Day and probably one of the most under-rated days of the year. You're probably saying, "Oh! I didn't even know there was one of those." I'm sure most people didn't know including myself until it was mentioned. What does this day mean?

It's only an important day if we each emphasize the importance of what it means to be a single parent. President Ronald Reagan did this in 1984 and inked it in history. Here's an excerpt from the proclamation.

March 21, 1984

By the President of the United States of America

A Proclamation

Before they are eighteen, about half of our Nation’s children will have lived part of their lives with a single parent who strives to fill the role of both mother and father.

Many single parents in America are making valiant efforts on behalf of their children under trying circumstances. Whether it is a deserted spouse forced to work and care for children simultaneously, or a spouse who is not receiving child support that has been awarded by a court, or an unwed mother who has bravely foregone the all-too-available option of abortion, or a widow or widower, single parents deserve our recognition and appreciation for their demonstrated dedication to their young.

I've known a few superwomen that played the part of the mother and father in their kid's life. Being that parent in my experience is the hardest thing someone can go through. I even say, in my experience, very carefully so I don't offend. I don't know what it's like, but I've know amazing single parents and talk to them on 103.5 Kissfm every day. Trust me. Yesterday I spoke to a mom calling as she left her first job on the way to her second trying to win Boise Music Festival tickets for her kid. THAT is what single parents do. I have one word, SELFLESS.

I've watched moms bite their tongues, turn the other cheek, and eat their own egos to NEVER trash the deadbeat dad in front of the children. Do you even know what kind of strength you must have to pull that miracle off? A single mother or father have so many more obstacles than we'll ever comprehend. I could go into so much more detail, but this blog would never end.

Kiss of Kindness for Them

Do them a favor today. Team up with people in your office, the neighborhood, or with family to do something nice for them today. I'm sure a handwritten note to say thank you for being great when nobody notices is something of more value than any gift. Say thanks. Good job. You're a hero. You're MY role model. We love you.

I would love to hear about your super-hero mom, dad, friend, co-worker, or neighbor. Tell why they are so amazing as a single parent, attach a photo of their single parent family, and send it to me. let me do something nice for them. Send it to kekeluv@1035kissfmboise.com.

Here's what other's are saying about today.
