Disney’s ‘Onward’ Available Soon For Socially Distant
With companies and entire industries trying to figure out how to stay alive during this unprecedented pandemic, movie companies have been going against their own common practices with movie theaters and releasing their films to rent and stream early.
One of the best movies (or only movies really) that I've seen so far this year in theaters, Disney's Pixar animated film, Onward, will be released early to Disney+ on April 3 for home streaming. The movie, which is also already available to rent on digital download, opened in theaters on March 6 but then had its theater run cut short by the coronavirus.
Even with the closures, Onward grossed $40 million during its first weekend at the box office and another $10.5 million during its second week. After that second week is when movie theaters started shutting down because of COVID-19 (coronavirus) concerns.
The movie is super cute and has a pretty big cast that includes Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer.
Onward isn't the only movie releasing early for home-viewing. Ben Affleck's The Way Back and Birds of Prey, which also stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, is hitting digital platforms today.
I also watched The Invisible Man last night after it became available to rent from home. 10/10 recommend Onward, maybe 7/10 recommend The Invisible Man. The 7 because it's so unrealistic all throughout the movie that it almost ruins it for me. It is super suspenseful and stressful, so maybe a 6/10 instead.
Whatever you're watching from home during these work from home and stay socially distant days, stay safe and healthy from home!
