Mandy Moore has successfully reached Mount Everest's base camp. Via instagram today she said:

"There’s no way to encapsulate what coursed through our veins and brains living in the mountains this past week," she wrote, adding "I think I’m slowly learning that I feel most like me when I’m outdoors. It’s couldn’t be any more outside my everyday realm, and yet there’s something entirely refreshing about being tasked with nothing more than breathing and slowly putting one foot in front of the other."

MM made the trek with several good friends and new ones as well, a group that

"shared everything," she wrote: "Laughs, toilet paper, snacks, skincare, the silly songs that got stuck in our heads, milk tea, selfies." However, the actress also expressed gratitude to Melissa Reid, a veteran climber who went along with the group: "It’s every bit as magical as you described: Your expertise, your stories, your wisdom, your belief in us set the tone for this entire experience."

Moore's climb was adventurous and admirable, but only a fraction of the way up the mountain, where multiple hikers have died in recent weeks.

I'll be honest, the news of multiple hikers dying has made me wonder if I'd ever want to go somewhere like that. But when you see pictures like Mandy Moore is posting (below), you realize why so many people are drawn to Nepal to do it!
