Let me preface this story with: it's never a good idea to loan money to someone you just met, and you shouldn't always believe what you're told. Perfect example of why ahead:

Just in time for Halloween, here's a "ghost" story you won't believe! A woman in Australia claims she ran into an ex-boyfriend two years after she was told by his mother that he was murdered by a biker gang.

"Rachel" told ABC News Australia this week that about three months after they started dating, when she was 18 and he was 21, "Alistair" came to her with a broken hand, asking for $1,000 since he couldn't work waiting tables with his injury. He repaid $300, but then they split and he cut off contact.

She and his friends did some digging and found he owed lots of people money. "The moment we went, ‘OK, he owes everyone money,’ the anxiety and urgency of the situation ramped up,” she says. His mom ultimately told her he'd been killed by biking thugs.

Cut to two years later: Rachel was eating at a restaurant when she remembered that Alistair's brother worked there. She asked to see him, but was told he wasn't working that day--but Alistair was. She then tried to go to the police and to talk to Alistair directly, until his mom texted her and accused her of causing a "scene" and getting Alistair fired.

A few years after that, she saw Alistair at another restaurant. “We made eye contact, and you could see he recognized me,” she says. After she called out, “Long time no see!” she says Alistair responded, “Oh, yeah, it has been a long time.”
